TWEEDLOVE Self Guided Road Routes
Skinny Ways to Love Tweedlove, a number of self guided road rides of varying lengths, starting and finishing in Peebles, to ride at your leisure during Tweedlove. All routes are tried and tested by members of Peebles CC and they will give you an introduction to what road cycling in the Tweed Valley has to offer. As you might expect there will usually be a cafe on route to take a well earned break and refuel.
All the following routes are self guided and all riders are responsible for themselves at all times
Route No.1 - Out and back 10 mile road ride on very quiet single track road. Unfortunately there is no cafe en-route but picnic benches are strategically placed at the turn point. If you are feeling fresh and wish to go a little further this route can be extended up Manor Valley making a total ride of ~24 miles.
Route No.2 - Again out and back, this time with a cafe at the furthest point. A total of 16 miles with the option to stop at Dawyck Botnaical Gardens for a coffee and cake. There is a bonus loop taking you to Dawyck over Dreva and via Broughton which will make the whole ride a total of ~25 miles.
Route No.3 - A road trip to St Marys Loch, a total of ~41 miles including a climb over Paddy Slacks, be careful on the descent and watch out for sheep and cattle. It may be a hard ride with a head wind out to Glen cafe at St Marys Loch, but you will fly back, just remember to slow down and turn left at Gordon Arms (additional coffee stop if required) as you head back towards Peebles over Paddy Slacks (it is an easier climb in this direction !)
You may wish to extend the route a little by continuing on to Grey Mares Tail however be aware there is a climb and a great descent to get there which of course has to be repeated on the return. This will make the route ~51 miles with 4 climbs and descents to be enjoyed.
but please do be careful, mind the pothole.............
Route No.4 - A circular ride of ~42 miles heading out to Midlothian via Innerleithen and Pipers Grave. Just keep turning left and ride past Gladhouse Resevoir before joining the main road back towards Peebles stopping at The Scots Pine cafe in Eddleston if you wish before the last 5 miles back into Peebles. However, if you are refuelled after your cafe stop and have a few more miles and a gentle climb in your legs then there is always another option to return to Peebles over the Meldons making the total ride ~45 miles.
