Triathlon

Triathlon is the fastest-growing sport in the UK.  Peebles is home to a growing number of triathletes, from novices to seasoned ironman participants.   Cycling forms one third of a triathlon (running and swimming being the other two).  So it’s not surprising there’s a healthy crossover between the local cycling and triathlon communities.

PCC provides a good variety of training for the cycling aspect of triathlon: from Saturday morning training rides, through winter turbo sessions, to the summer time trial series.  There are also run- and swim sessions on a Wednesday evening based at the local swimming pool (run 7-8pm, swim 8-9pm)

PCC is not a registered triathlon club, but we provide a forum for local triathletes to co-ordinate training and events.  For those who want to join a registered club, Border Triathletes is nearest.  A number of Peebles-based triathletes are members of the Borders club too.  If you want to know more just drop us a note and we’ll get back to you.

 Events

Borders Sport and Leisure Trust run a triathlon and duathlon series over the summer, including both a triathlon and duathlon in Peebles.  All are pool swims, and all bar one triathlons are sprint distance (750m swim / 20km bike / 5km run).  The exception is Selkirk which is standard distance (1500m swim / 40km bike / 10km swim).

There’s also the durty triathlon, an off-road event based just down the road at picturesque St. Mary’s Loch.  Both sprint and standard distances are catered for: the swim is in the loch with bike and run routes in the hills around.

Further afield there are events all over the country – see the Triathlon Scotland events page for more details.
