Kids Club – Shifters and Stays Ride Outs

The last two weeks have seen the Shifters and Stays moving away from Glentress and exploring some of the sweet singletrack that is right on our doorstep. First off was a demanding ride up to the summit of the Cademuir Ridge followed by an eye watering descent a long its length and to finish off a mad plunge off the end to the road! There was a lull in our efforts as we cruised to the Manor and Hallmanor Forest. Once there things got a whole lot tougher with a buttock clenching slog up to the Dead Wife’s Grave, followed by an even harder climb to the top of a David Winton secret trail.
The descent down steep, grassy and over hung with trees trail was bliss with everybody arriving at the bottom with insane grins on their faces! Time was against us so being hardy souls we took a quick short cut back over the Sware, but rather than following the road down in to Peebles we veered off sharply to follow the walkers path that takes you to the edge of the railway tunnel and then descended down the narrow and rooty path to the old railway line itself. A quick sprint along the tracks and the Tweed side path saw us back at Kingsmeadow’s car park tired but immensely happy. Well done to all a fine effort.
Week two saw us back heading towards the Cademuir Ridge but this time we went exploring in the Woods themselves and what a fine time was had. Climbing up the Pilot’s Trail brought us to the top of a muddy singletrack descent that everybody smiling. A bit of a climb up the fire road brought us to some amazing singletrack that has been the scene of many a film by Calum Darling and Jake Hood. The next hour was spent finding trails and riding them with virtually everybody finding some mud to fall into! A great morning with smiles all round, well done to all a great mornings fun.
Our plan is to try and do more exploring this summer so keep an eye open for e-mails giving details of the next adventure!
